Our Founder, Etyang Fred, grew up in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, in an slum called Nakawa. He and his brother and sister walked one hour
each day to attend a packed government primary school.

When Fred visited the village where his family is from, he saw that the kids there were dealing with the same issues, and he wanted them to have a school of their own. He and his friends tried to make this happen, but struggled to get the necessary resources.

Fred partnered with Shauna Davidson to get access to funding in the United States. With the help of Growing Hearts of Africa Foundation and other generous donors, he was able to achieve his dream of building a school in his family's village. That school now provides free quality education to 450 children annually.
